Title: How to Include People with Disability in Nutrition Services and Programming

Session Summary: 
Two of the session speakers from the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability will explain the “Guidelines, Recommendations, Adaptations, Including Disability” adaptation framework. They will discuss barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities, summarize effective communication and inclusive teaching strategies, identify accessible clinic spaces, examine adapted cooking and gardening utensils and tools, kitchen accessibility, and detail rights to nutrition services and programming. One speaker (RD with a disability and high-performance athlete) will provide practical applications.

Title: Promoting Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access in the Dietetics Career Path for Individuals with Disabilities

Summary of Session:
Improving access to dietetic education and internships for those with disabilities would help close the gap between the number of patients with disabilities and dietetic practitioners with disabilities. This would enhance provision of nutrition services and better serve the nutritional needs of people with disabilities. Three speakers with disabilities who recently completed a dietetic internship, passed the RD exam, and work as dietetic practitioners will address how they provided disability information as well as the accommodations they requested and received for dietetic internships, RD exam, and jobs in dietetics.
